The Wheeling Gateway Center hosted a community meeting at the Capitol Theatre Ballroom to gather resident input on its upcoming Heritage Experience—a 4,000-square-foot immersive exhibit designed by TimeLooper. The exhibit, located on the center’s main floor overlooking the Ohio River and Suspension Bridge, will use digital storytelling and interactive technology to bring Wheeling’s history to life in a non-traditional, museum-like setting.

The project is currently in the design phase, with construction expected to begin in early 2026. TimeLooper plans to divide Wheeling’s history into six thematic chapters—Indigenous, Frontier, Transportation, Statehood, Industry, and Culture—and center the exhibit around community stories and resident feedback. The goal is to create a dynamic experience that encourages repeat visits and deeper exploration of the city beyond the center.

More than 4,200 responses from an earlier engagement session emphasized a desire for heritage connections, riverfront access, and elevated dining experiences. Attendees at the recent meeting contributed ideas via sticky notes, helping shape the exhibit’s content and emotional tone. Organizers continue to invite community input by email to ensure the final design reflects Wheeling’s identity and collective memory.
