Wheeling City Council has approved $62,000 for M&G Architects and Engineers to design demolition plans for the Clay School, ensuring the structure's removal won't impact nearby homes. An asbestos abatement contract is currently open for bids until the end of May, with demolition expected to follow.

The council also discussed progress on the Streetscape project, which involves separating downtown's combined sewer and water overflows. Members addressed safety concerns about deep bioswales, noting that they will be filled with vegetation to manage runoff and enhance community aesthetics. The state is leading efforts to determine necessary safety measures like railings or fencing.
